San Diego Gas & Electric

Station B Substation
This one acre substation is located in downtown San Diego. A new replacement compact substation would free up approximately 30,000 square feet for some other purpose. A chilled water plant is located diagonally across Kettner Boulevard from the substation. A future energy center could house both the chiller plant and the substation.
In the mid 1990s I began discussing the concept of relocating the substation with SDG&E and they put me in touch with Jim Monahan who had purchased the building housing the former SDG&E Station B Power Plant. Monahan was interested in relocating the adjacent substation into the basement of the old power plant building. The following proposal was developed but unfortunately did not gain traction. Monahan sold the power plant property to the developer of the Electra 43 story luxury condominium.
